Athlone Joint Retail Strategy

The practice was commissioned by Roscommon and Westmeath County Councils to prepare a Joint Retail Strategy for the Athlone – Monksland / Bellanamullia on foot of a recommendation from the Report on the Athlone Boundary Review Committee published in November 2016. The area covered includes the current Athlone Town Development Plan and that covered by the Monksland / Bellanamullia Local Area Plan. The Strategy is being prepared to implement the objectives of the Retail Planning Guidelines 2012. Retail Strategies assist planning authorities in the assessment of proposed retail development and generally seek to protect and enhance the viability and vitality of town centres.
