Research Interests
Building on its growing research portfolio, MacCabe Durney Barnes is keen to get involved in research projects which influence both public policy and planning practice, in addition to developing new tools and techniques to address environmental and planning challenges faced by policy-makers, plan-makers, decision-makers and practitioners in the public interest domain.
Following our excellent track-record at national level, we are now interested in partaking in higher level projects, particularly Horizon 2020 and INTERREG. Our company is an Irish-based planning and research consultancy. While all our staff is composed of professionally trained planners, each individual has acquired a speciality of hers/his. Our staff includes chartered surveying (development economics), environmental law, architecture and marine spatial planning.
Our research portfolio comprises the Environmental Protection Agency, the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland / Department of Communication, Energy and Natural Resources and the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. We have worked with third level institutions, including Aberdeen University, Queens University, University College Dublin and the Dublin Institute of Technology, in addition to coordinating EU proposals. We are also part of the pan-European consortium MINLAND, funded under Horizon 2020’s Societal Challenge Call no.5.
Our research interests include:
- Environmental assessment (at strategic and project level)
- Marine / maritime spatial planning
- Offshore renewable energy
- Social and economic impacts
- Regional development
- Urban policy
- Mineral resources
