Cork prison

The practice was commissioned with Sweett Group by the Irish Prison Service to prepare and coordinate the Environmental Impact Statement for the new Cork Prison, at Rathmore Road. The prison was designed to replace the existing one, which was overcrowded, in poor condition and unsuitable for accommodating prisoners and staff. The new prison can accommodate up to 310 prisoners and serves the Cork, Kerry and Waterford Region. The prison is now built.

As well as coordinating the overall Environmental Impact Statement, MacCabe Durney Barnes provided general planning advice with particular references to the special planning powers under the 2007 Prisons Act.
